Youssef Chebbi was born in Tunisia in 1984. After studying art, he directed the short f ilms Heading North (2010) and The Depths (2012), which were selected for several international festivals. In 2012, he co-directed the documentary Babylon, which won the Jury Prize at FIDMarseille and was presented at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Ashkal (2022) is his first feature-length film.
Two cops, Fatma and Batal, discover a burnt body in one of the lots of the Gardens of Carthage, a district of Tunis initiated by the former regime on which construction stopped at the beginning of the revolution. As construction slowly resumes, the pair start looking into the mysterious case. When the event repeats itself, the investigation takes a puzzling turn.
