David Depesseville was born in Nevers, France, in 1976. After studying cinema in Montpellier and working as a first assistant director on numerous projects, among them the films of Sophie Letourneur, Depesseville directed his first short film, Ci-gît l’amour, in 2005. He went on to make the shorts Le Dépeuplé, Les Lendemains qui chantent for the rock band Les Thugs, and La Dernière Plaine. Astrakan (2022), which had its premiere at the Locarno Film Festival, marks his feature-length directorial debut.
Samuel is a rough-looking twelve-year-old orphan. Marie, Clément, and their two sons have been fostering him for a few weeks in the Morvan region of France.
