Andrea Pallaoro was born in Trento, Italy, in 1982. He holds a BA from Hampshire College and MFA in film directing from the California Institute of the Arts. His debut feature film, Medeas (2013), had its premiere at the Venice Film Festival and won several awards from prestigious international film festivals, among them the Marrakech, Tbilisi, and Palm Springs International Film Festivals. His second feature, Hannah (2017), also premiered at Venice, in the Official Competition, where Charlotte Rampling received the Volti Cup for Best Actress. Hannah went on to receive many prestigious international awards, and was nominated for the César Award for Best Foreign Film.
An intimate portrait of Monica, a woman who returns home after a lengthy absence to confront the wounds of her past. Reconnecting with her mother and the rest of her family for the first time since she left as a teenager, Monica embarks on a path of healing and acceptance. Delving into Monicaâs internal world and state of mind, her pain and fears, her needs and desires, the film explores universal themes of abandonment and forgiveness.
