Albert Serra was born in Banyoles, Spain, in 1975. He gained international recognition with his first feature-length film, Honour of the Knights (Quixotic) (2006), which was presented in the Directors’ Fortnight at the Festival de Cannes. Among his other films are Birdsong (2008); Story of My Death (2013), which won the Gold Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival; The Death of Louis XIV (2016), which had its premiere at Cannes; and Liberté (2019), which won the Un Certain Regard Special Jury Award at Cannes. Pacifiction (2022) was selected for the Official Competition at Cannes.
