Based between Paris and Phnom Penh, Davy Chou is a director and producer born in 1983. The grandson of Cambodian producer Van Chann, Chou directed Golden Slumbers (2012), a selection of the Berlin International Film Festival that documents the birth of Cambodian cinema and its brutal destruction by the Khmer Rouge. His short film Cambodia 2099 (2014) was presented in the Directors’ Fortnight at the Festival de Cannes, where his first feature-length film, Diamond Island (2016), won the SACD Award, and his second feature, Return to Seoul (2022), was selected for the Un Certain Regard section.
Acting on an impulse to reconnect with her origins, twenty-five-year-old Freddie returns to South Korea, where she was born before she was adopted and raised in France. On her first visit to her homeland since she left, the headstrong young woman starts to search for her biological parents in a country she knows little about, taking her life in new and unexpected directions.
