Maryam Touzani was born in Tangier in 1980 and obtained a degree in journalism in London. She made several award-winning documentaries and shorts before making her debut feature, the multi-award-winning Adam (2019), which had its premiere in Un Certain Regard at the Festival de Cannes, was a Special Screening at the Marrakech International Film Festival, and was Moroccoâs entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature. Halim and Mina run a traditional caftan store in one of Moroccoâs oldest medinas. In order to keep up with the demands of customers, they hire Youssef, a talented apprentice who shows utmost dedication in learning the arts of embroidery and tailoring from Halim. Over time, Mina comes to realise how much her husband is moved by the presence of the young man.
