Simone Bitton was born in Rabat in 1955, and holds both Moroccan and French nationalities. She has made more than twenty documentary films, which have been selected for and won awards at prestigious festivals. From archive films (Palestine, Story of a Land, 1997) to film essays (Wall, 2004), political biographies (Ben Barka, lâéquation marocaine, 1998) and portraits of artists (Mahmoud Darwich, 1998), her work combines rigour and personal perspective. All her films bear witness to his commitment to a better representation of the news, history and cultures of the Middle East and North Africa.
The Moroccan practice of ziyara is a visit to the saints, a popular practice common to both Jews and Muslims. Today, the Jews of Morocco have almost all departed, but their saints are still here. Director Simone Britton goes to meet the Muslim guardians of this Jewish memory.
