Originaire de Sydney, Joel Edgerton y a été formé à la Nepean Drama School avant de commencer sa carrière sur les planches et les écrans. Il a notamment joué dans Master Gardener (2022), The Green Knight (2021), Le Roi (2019), Gringo (2018), Red Sparrow (2018), Loving (2016), Strictly Criminal (2015), Gatsby le Magnifique (2013), Zero Dark Thirty (2012), Warrior (2011) ou encore Animal Kingdom (2010). Il est l’un des fondateurs du collectif de cinéma Bluetongue films. En 2015, il a écrit et réalisé The Gift (2015), qui lui a valu une nomination aux Directors Guild of America Awards, et Boy Erased (2018). Il a produit de nombreux films tels que The Stranger, The Square (2017) et Le Roi, qu’il a coécrit avec David Michod. Il sera prochainement à l’affiche The Boys in the Boat (2023), réalisé par George Clooney et de la série Dark Matter (2023), avec Jennifer Connelly.
