Born in Paris in 1982, Oliver Laxe is the son of Galician emigrants. When he was six years old, his family returned to Galicia, in the northwest of Spain. After completing studies in audiovisual communication, he moved to Tangier, where he self-produced and directed You All Are Captains, which won the FIPRESCI Prize in the Directors’ Fortnight at the Festival de Cannes. In 2016, he received the Grand Prize of La Semaine de la Critique at Cannes for Mimosas. He then directed Fire Will Come, which was awarded the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize at Cannes. Sirāt, his fourth feature, was shot in the Sahara Desert and had its premiere in the Official Competition in Cannes, where it won the Jury Prize.
A father and son arrive at a rave deep in the mountains of southern Morocco. They’re searching for their daughter and sister, who vanished months ago at one of these endless, sleepless parties. Surrounded by electronic music and a raw sense of freedom, they push through and follow a group of ravers heading to one last party in the desert. As they venture deeper into the burning wilderness, the journey forces them to confront their own limits.
