A Padma Shri award winner, Karan Johar is one of the most notable Indian filmmakers of today. Besides having been an acclaimed director in the Indian film industry for the past twenty-five years, Johar is also a television personality, a talk show host, and a mentor to new talents across the spectrum. Koffee with Karan, his chat show, has the distinction of being the most-watched English-language talk show on Indian television. In addition to his personal accomplishments, Johar has also been a mentor to many successful Indian directors, who have flourished thanks to his support as a producer, releasing commercial blockbusters like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Shershaah, and Brahmastra, as well as critical successes like Kapoor & Sons, Gehraiyaan, and, more recently, Homebound, which was selected for the Festival de Cannes and the Toronto International Film Festival, was India’s submission for the Academy Awards film, and featured Martin Scorsese as an executive producer.  Marking his twenty-fifth anniversary as a director, he released Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which became the highest-grossing romantic-comedy Hindi film within thirty days of its release overseas. Karan Johar is one among a prolific group of Indian filmmakers who have brought about a fresh and modern outlook to Indian commercial cinema, and he has contributed greatly to the transformation of Hindi cinema from his very first film.
