Jim Jarmusch is a film director, writer, musician, producer, and artist. For years, he has written, directed, and produced delicate, character-driven films. Winner of the Venice International Film Festival Golden Lion, Father Mother Sister Brother is a perceptive study in familial dynamics, carefully constructed in the form of a triptych, and starring Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Tom Waits, Vicky Krieps, Cate Blanchett, and Charlotte Rampling. Jarmusch’s previous credits include Permanent Vacation, Stranger Than Paradise, Down by Law, Mystery Train, Night on Earth, Ghost Dog, Coffee and Cigarettes, Broken Flowers, Only Lovers Left Alive, and, more recently, Paterson and The Dead Don't Die.
Father Mother Sister Brother is constructed in the form of a triptych whose stories concern the relationships between adult children, their somewhat distant parentparents, and each other. Each chapter takes place in the present, each in a different country. Father is set in the northeastern United States, Mother in Ireland, and Sister Brother in France. A series of character studies: quiet, observational, and non-judgmental—the film is a comedy interwoven with threads of melancholy.
