
James J. Robinson is a 29-year-old Filipino-Australian artist. Best known for his work in photography and film, his images have appeared in The New York Times and Vogue, and in campaigns for Apple and Maison Valentino. In 2021, he became one of the first artists with Filipino roots to be exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery of Australia, and his protest piece Burn the Blazer led to a national parliamentary debate about discrimination. Inang Maynila, a short documentary about his mother’s youth under martial law in the Philippines, was shot on 35 mm film and screened at a number of festivals around the globe. First Light is his debut feature film
