The late Ahmed Bouanani (1938–2011) was a Moroccan poet, filmmaker, and writer. He directed a single feature film, Mirage, as well as several short films, including Mémoire 14, a film that is of note for its alternation between colonial archival footage and images shot during the 20th century in Morocco. Bouanani edited numerous films at the Moroccan Cinematographic Center and wrote The Seventh Gate: A History of Cinema in Morocco from 1907 to 1986, which was published posthumously in 2020 by his daughter. Ali Essafi directed a film essay about Bouanani, Crossing the Seventh Gate, in 2017.
A man discovers some money in a sack of flour. So begins a tale that takes place between yesterday and tomorrow, between silence and a scream; and that ends, brutally, in disillusionment.
