Antoine Lanciaux joined Folimage in 1991 and worked on the early series and films produced by the studio. After honing his craft working with directors including Michael Dudok de Witt and Michel Ocelot, Lanciaux co-wrote the scripts for Raining Cats and Frogs and Mia and the Migou with Jacques-Rémy Girerd. With Pierre-Luc Granjon, he co-directed Four Seasons of Leon, with puppets, and he co-wrote Vanille, a television special directed by Guillaume Lorin that won a Cristal Award for a TV Production. The Songbirds’ Secret is his first feature-length film made entirely of paper cut-outs.
When nine-year-old Lucie arrives at Bectoile for the holidays, she has no idea of the adventures that await. Her mother, Caroline, is leading an archaeological dig in the region with her colleague Pierrot. Bectoile is the town where Caroline grew up, and the scene of a family secret—which Lucie is about to unveil! Lucie is determined to delve into her family story with the help of her new friend Yann and a very special pair of songbirds… From the foundations of a ruined castle to a camper van parked on the edge of the woods, this adventure will lead them from unusual surprises to fabulous discoveries!
