Call for Applications: Film Criticism Training and Development Workshop for Journalists

The Marrakech International Film Festival Foundation is organizing, on July 15 and 16 in Casablanca, a new edition of its Film Criticism Training and Development Workshop for cultural and film journalists working in Morocco.

This workshop is part of the Atlas Programs, the umbrella initiative that brings together all the professional development activities of the Marrakech International Film Festival Foundation, dedicated to supporting, training, and nurturing new generations of Moroccan, Arab, and African film professionals.

This new edition marks the fifth session of the Film Criticism Training and Development Workshop. Since its launch in 2024, the workshop has already welcomed around forty journalists and film students, confirming the growing interest in creating a space for reflection, knowledge-sharing, and practice centered on the critical appreciation of cinematic works.

The workshop will be led by Charles Tesson, a leading figure in French film criticism. Former Editor-in-Chief of Cahiers du Cinéma (1998–2003), he also served as the Artistic Director of the La Semaine de la Critique at the Cannes Film Festival from 2012 to 2021. A Professor of Film History at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris, he is also the author of several reference works devoted notably to Satyajit Ray, Luis Buñuel, and Akira Kurosawa.

The workshop is free of charge, with a limited number of places available. It will be conducted in French and Arabic, with simultaneous translation. Journalists wishing to participate must be currently working in Morocco and hold a valid press card.
