Born in 1974 into a family of artists in Skopje, Teona Strugar Mitevska began acting in television and theater at the age of six. After high school, she trained as a painter and graphic designer, then studied film at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. A committed filmmaker, she defines herself as a “femartivist,” combining her activism and artistic talent with feminism. In 2018, the French Minister of Culture made her a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Her most recent film, Mother, had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival.
Kolkata, India, August 1948. Teresa, Mother Superior of the convent of the Sisters of Loreto, is anxiously waiting for the letter that will finally allow her to leave her congregation and create a new order in response to the call she has received from God. Just as everything seems ready, she finds herself faced with a dilemma that challenges her own ambitions and faith at a major turning point in her life.
