
US director, screenwriter, and producer Richard Linklater was born in Houston, Texas, in 1960. After attending Sam Houston State University and working on an oil rig, he developed a love of cinema. In 1985, he founded the Austin Film Society and shot short films in Super 8 before directing his first feature-length film, It's Impossible to Learn to Plow by Reading Books. His second feature, Slacker, was screened at the Sundance Film Festival and was a critical success. It was followed by Dazed and Confused, the Before Sunrise trilogy, Waking Life, Boyhood, Everybody Wants Some!!, Last Flag Flying, Apollo 10½: A Space Age Childhood, and Hit Man. His most recent film, Nouvelle Vague, was presented in the Official competition at the Festival de Cannes.
