The late Ali Abdel-Khalek was born in 1944. A pioneering Egyptian film director and screenwriter, he was known for his socially and politically engaged cinema. His notable works include The Shame (Al Aar), Return of a Citizen (Awdat Mowatin), and Escape (El-Horoub), which explored themes of morality, justice, and the complexities of Egyptian society. Abdel-Khalek died in 2018.
