The late Hassan El Emam was born in 1930. The prolific Egyptian film director and screenwriter directed more than 100 films, spanning musicals, dramas, and social comedies, and was known for adapting famous Egyptian novels to the screen. His films often blended melodrama with social commentary, making him one of the most influential figures in Egyptian cinema during the 1960s and 1970s. El Emam died in 1988.
ZouZou leaves behind her life working in Mohammed Ali Street as a dancer and enters college. Her ambition is to acquire knowledge and to leave her past behind. She finds herself in a relationship with Saïd, a young man from an affluent background, and becomes conflicted about her two lives.
