Ugo Bienvenu is a French director, illustrator, screenwriter, editor, and producer known for blending animation, graphic novels, experimental visuals, and narrative. He grew up in Guatemala, Chad, Mexico, and France. Bienvenu trained at École Estienne in Paris and later studied animation at Gobelins, and also spent time at the California Institute of the Arts. Early in his career, he created short films and music videos, and collaborated on anthologies and advertisements while publishing graphic novels such as Paiement accepté and Préférence système, the latter of which won acclaim in Angoulême. With Arco, his first feature-length film, he expands his signature style into a luminous sci-fi tale of time, climate change, and human connection.
Ten-year-old Arco lives in the year 2932, in a faraway future where time travel via rainbows is possible. During his first solo rainbow flight, he goes off course and accidentally travels back to the year 2075. There, he meets Iris, a young girl whose world is scarred by climate change, domed cities, and environmental collapse. Iris helps Arco navigate this unfamiliar time, facing the dangers and wonders of a near future that has changed drastically since our time. Together, they attempt to find a way for Arco to return home, forging an unlikely and tender bond across time.
